Laser Procedures

What Is a Laser Treatment?

Having skin imperfections on the face and body can make a person feel insecure and appear old and worn out. Men and women alike want to have great-looking skin. When our skin shows superficial signs of aging, excess hair, or scars, we often find that even expensive moisturizers and do-it-yourself treatments won’t do the trick. For someone who wants smoother skin that appears refreshed and youthful, laser procedures are an excellent option for targeting areas throughout the face and body. Offering minimal downtime and pain while providing lasting results, laser treatments are great options for those wanting to improve the appearance of their skin.

The Benefits of Laser Procedures

  • Non-invasive;
  • Minimal pain;
  • Long-lasting results.

Laser Treatments From Dr. Sylvie Bourrée

Plexr®

Plexr/plasma soft surgery treatment is a revolutionary way to treat loose eyelid and neck skin or puffy eyelids without the downtime and cost of surgery. It is a non-surgical treatment which offers an effective alternative to surgical procedures such as blepharoplasty (eyelid correction), face/neck lift and scars. Plexr® treats ageing eyes, wrinkles, stretch marks and scars, acne, acne scarring and turkey neck.

How does it work?

Plexr® creates a plasma arc to stimulate instant contraction and tightening of the skin in a process that takes 2-4 weeks. There is no scalpel or laser used and therefore no stitches.

What to expect?

Following a consultation to see if you are a suitable candidate for Plexr®, when you return for the procedure numbing cream is applied to minimise any discomfort. Treatment time, including topical numbing cream, may be 20-60 minutes depending on the treatment area. One to three treatments may be needed for each area at 6-8 week intervals.

The treatment is performed with dots created by the Plexr® device to sublimate (change from solid to gas) the superficial skin cells without bleeding or damage to surrounding tissue.

Following treatment, the areas treated will be red with swelling. At the site of each dot, there will be a carbon crust that should not be touched except to camouflage for 7 days. You will need to keep the treated area clean, dry and protected from sun exposure or direct sources of heat for a minimum of 30 days. You will be given creams to apply for the following week which can aid with the healing process.

Unusual side effects include infection, scarring or pigmentation changes. It is imperative to follow after care advice to avoid such complications.

What are the benefits?

Plexr is an effective treatment for individuals with excess skin on the upper and lower eyelids, fine lines and photodamaged skin. This treatment can be performed on any skin type. This procedure does not involve cutting the skin or stitches meaning a faster healing time. It is an excellent option for individuals not ready for eyelid surgery or for those who are not suitable for a surgical blepharoplasty.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal effectively gets rid of unwanted facial or body hair in a non-invasive way. The hand-held laser device is pressed against the skin to deliver pulses of light energy. The energy destroys the deepest part of the hair follicle without disturbing the surrounding tissues. After several treatments, the hair is destroyed and unable to grow back. Our medical hair removal laser allow us to safely and effectively treat every skin type and tone ranging from very light to dark.

What are the advantages of Alexandrite Laser?
It is considered the most efficient laser for use with all hair and skin types, as the laser does not affect darker skin types as much as other lasers. As with all other lasers, it is best with white and very light skin, and has proven most effective with the fine, thin hairs that many of the other types of laser cannot eliminate.

The wavelength of light emitted from the Alexandrite Laser is easily absorbed by the melanin (pigment cells) in your hair, which causes those cells to be heated and ultimately destroyed.

What are the side effects?
For those with very dark skin, there is a risk of hypopigmentation (skin lightening in patches that are treated by the laser). The Alexandrite Laser is NOT the most effective for dark-skinned patients. Even among those with lighter skin, there is a risk of the pigment being destroyed from the skin. On the flip side, there is even a risk that the skin will OVER-produce melanin as a result of the light, which could lead to dark patches on your skin.

Pain is common during the treatment, though it’s usually fairly minimal. A cooling gel is often applied once the area is treated, helping to reduce pain and prevent swelling.

There is often a bit of swelling and itching following the procedure, but that should go away after a few days. The skin may turn red, but it will only burn if the laser is incorrectly used. There is a very small chance (10%) that there will be bruising, but the bruises will fade on their own.
